Both subjects offer a subconscious self-portrait, a series built on composed opposites of character through the use of high-key and low-key lighting. In real life, Julia is busy and serious, shaped by the daily effort she pours into her projects, her life's motto being work and the constant training of her creative mind, a discipline she practices every day. Margaret, on the other hand, appears in the photograph as noble, elegant, upright, drawn to an expensive taste in fashion, especially shoes and bags, while in real life she seizes life by the throat, quick, unreflective, impulsive. These are portraits of the subconscious, of a moment paused, of doing what neither reason nor the body dictates, but simply listening to what feels right, a presentation entirely of one's own choosing.
